LONG WAY FROM PARADISE

Long Way from Paradise.jpg

The sequel to "Doboro the Bottlenecker" picks up the story a few months later. While Doboro is still being stalked by the bad guys, he continues to play his CBG, is reunited with Summer, and gets tangled up in elements of her past, all while his daughter seeks answers.

Author's Summary:

Doboro the Bottlenecker is back for another action-packed adventure!

After months on the road, trying to avoid sword-slinging assassins and barely avoiding prison for defeating one of them, Doboro, a wandering blues singer, reunites unexpectedly with a dear friend, Summer Winter. After he rescues her from a couple of street thugs, Summer, now a single mother, invites Doboro to stay with her family for a time in Paradise, Kansas, and he gratefully accepts. Playing his cigar box guitar on the street, he is quickly hired to provide live music at the Paradise Hotel by young, billionaire tycoon Stu Armstrong.

And all seems well and good.

However, while old dangers have paused in their pursuit of Doboro, there’s trouble in Paradise, as Armstrong’s desire to turn this idyllic town into the next Las Vegas has him employing strong-arm tactics to convince even longtime residents to surrender their homes and businesses to him. And when he sets his sights on Summer and her home, Doboro takes it personally...very personally indeed.

But in order to intervene, he’s going to have to go through his lovely chief of security, Mae Linn...whom Doboro has grown to like...a lot. An explosive confrontation is inevitable, and Paradise may get caught in the resulting shock-wave. Can Doboro stop Paradise from becoming a veritable hell on earth?

This installment of the Doboro the Bottlenecker series brings action, humor, and a maybe little romance in ways only Kevin M. Kraft can.

DOBORO THE BOTTLENECKER

Doboro Bottlenecker.jpg

This is a great story! Doboro loses everything, goes into hiding to heal, learns to defend himself, falls in love, finds his daughter (who he thought was dead,) and whoops up some bad guys - what's not to love?!

Author's summary: After surviving a devastating assassination attempt, family man Dave Granger is spirited away to South Korea to undergo intense rehabilitation under the harsh tutelage of a martial arts master by the grace of a merciful God.

Seven years later, with a sterling faith born out of adversity and a wit as razor sharp as the sword concealed within his walking stick, Granger returns to the U.S. and ekes out a modest living as a blind cigar box slide guitarist and street singer in Kansas City. But while he tries to live in peaceful anonymity, he is once again set upon by the very ruthless forces that killed his family and took his sight. But unlike the first time, Doboro is by no means defenseless, having been trained in the ancient Korean art of the Sulsa warriors.

But will his uncommon faith, indomitable spirit and breathtaking combat skills, pitted against highly trained assassins, be enough to save his life, let alone that of the one person whose life is dearer to him than his own?

MY DAD IS DEAD AND OTHER FUNNY STORIES

My%20Dad%20is%20Dead_edited.jpg

This book is funny! And crude (in a pre-adolescent way,) and heartwarming, and heartbreaking, and mostly true. I got to stretch a bit and try out my Greek accent.  The author paid me up front to record it, so I don't make anything if you decide to buy it. But if you are new to Audible, please use the URL on the Preview page. If you do, you'll get a free trial month. Then, if you continue your Audible membership for a few months (no obligation to do so,) I will get a little bonus!

Here's what the author says about it:

Death. It’s a part of life and something we all must accept. Whether it be our own demise or losing a loved one, the experience of death is both sobering and surreal. My Dad Is Dead is a group of related short stories that explore that dichotomy through the eyes of a kid.

In George Verongos’ second book, he turns childhood memories into “fictionally enhanced” tales (he made us say that, he’s trying to make it a thing). With one foot in memoir and the other in fiction, My Dad Is Dead recounts the experiences of the author as a young boy (I always wanted to say that) growing up as the last of four children, and the only boy, to Greek American parents.

Set in the Midwest, the breadbasket of America, during the '70s and '80s, My Dad Is Dead takes you on a journey of preadolescence and all its trials and tribulations culminating in the sudden death of the author’s father. If you like your accents thick, your humor dark, and your tears jerked, My Dad Is Dead and Other Funny Stories is for you.

CHRONICLES OF SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

Chronicles.jpg

Chronicles of a Spiritual Journey recounts personal stories that seem like random worldly occurrences. Yet, upon closer scrutiny, each story reveals a parallel spiritual relevance as well.

The stories range from eating breakfast with Superman at an airport (the preview sample) to loading iron pellets into the Edmund Fitzgerald. Questions for the listener follow each story to help them to discern the spiritual significance of their own life’s experience.

Entertaining and engaging, this book tells the spiritual tales of one man’s life, but it’s more about the collective spiritual journey of us all.

Broken into short chapters, the total runs about four hours.

LOVE'S RESURRECTION

A spiritual memoir. Reverend Held recounts his journey through three personal Great Awakenings. In the background of this journey are two constant and competing narratives: the human "fear story" versus God's "love story." You may not agree with all of his theology, but it will challenge you to rethink how you relate to scripture, the people you encounter, and your own fear. AND you get to listen to my dulcet voice for 7 hours!

THREE KNIGHTS, A WIZARD, AND A DOORWAY

Three Knights Cover Art 2.jpg

This is my very first audiobook production! I will be forever grateful to Joe Chilson (the author) for taking a chance on me. It is a quirky tale of Merlin (the Wizard) and three young knights, who travel to various realms always pursued by dark forces. (disclaimer: this book would be rated PG, even appropriate for older kids, were it not for ONE word that would be bleeped on late night broadcast TV)
